Sorcha in Sepia

Happy Labor Day! One of the perks of being employed by a bank is that you get every federal holiday off work. Today I was invited to a barbecue in Highlands Ranch, hosted by the Murrays (some of my extended family who happen to live in Colorado). I grabbed the camera, figuring I would get some shots of Molly, their hyper black lab mix who loves me so much she can't sit still, but on the way out the door I saw that Her Royal Fluffiness was curled up in the disc chair. I spent twenty minutes shooting the cat instead of leaving for the barbecue. As soon as I started paying attention to her with the camera, she starting bathing herself (I got a neat motion-blur shot of this which almost became today's picture) and gazing out the balcony doors without moving from her spot (the picture you see). I like the sepia filter because it seems to keep things warm and cozy while bringing out a lot of textural detail.

The chair is a disc-shaped cushiony mesh fabric folding chair I found on sale at Target, and it sits in front of the fireplace when not in use on the balcony since it would probably be ruined by a good soaking rain. Sorcha loves it second only to my lap and she curls up in it every chance she gets.

Molly, for the record, was mostly uncooperative. I did get one decent photo after Aunt Mary bribed her with a biscuit, but the Sorcha photos were a lot better. I am aiming to make this edition of 50 Days more artsy than the last two have been. I want it to show how far I have come as a photographer in the last few months.
