Faccio un Foto

I went to the Festival Italiano after spending all day in Italian class. I wandered around, gazed longingly at the $80 hand painted plates, ate pizza and tiramisu, and watched the flag throwers.

As I was wandering through the bazaar, I saw that the flag throwers were doing the same in between performances. I overheard them speaking Italian, so I decided to ask for a photo. I figured it was a good excuse to speak Italian, and may even be the only opportunity I ever get to use it with native speakers.

"Scusi, faccio un foto, per piacere?"

I have no idea if that's really how one would say "Excuse me, may I take a photo please?", but I was very proud of myself, that I was able to put that sentence together anyway. Even if it is horribly broken - which seems likely.

They were good sports and posed for me. I asked them the Italian word for "photographer" since I had guessed wrongly with "fotograforessa" and badly mangled it, and they all shook their heads and said, "fau-tau-grah-FAIR". So I suppose I'm a "photographer" in both English and Italian, no feminization.

If you were smart enough to realize that there was a different draft of this story here on the 23rd, good for you. It is the 24th as I reconstruct this, and I am so freakishly exhausted that I somehow saved today's entry over this one. Now that it's fixed, I'm going to bed.
