The Murrays also delivered a gift from Grandma, which was some richly perfumed body wash and lotion from Victoria's Secret. Thanks Grandma, I love you!
Cubano Dinner
It's not my birthday today - that happens on Wednesday - but the Murrays took me out for my birthday dinner tonight. I chose a restaurant called Cuba Libre, which, of course, serves Cuban cuisine. I had a plantain encrustred snapper in a smoked tomato coulis with yukka latkas and avocado puree, which was presented so nicely that I took a photo. The fish was okay. I didn't think the plantain crust really added anything to it, or if it did it was overwhelmed by the coulis, which was good but fairly strong. The yucca latkas were really fabulous, however, and the Murrays raved about the Ropa Vieja, cumin lamb ribs, and mango chicken, and the tapas sampler and scallop ceviche we ordered were all quite excellent. It's a really nice restaurant, though apparently wholly undiscovered. We were the only people in the two-story dining room. They played jazz blues in the dining room, the decor is quite nice, and they give you the check in a vintage cigar box. If you're lucky enough to dine on the patio on a gorgeous evening, you'll be in heaven. The mojitos are fantastic and the tres leches cake they gave me for my birthday dessert was fantastic, especially with the tiny scoop of jalapeno-lime sorbet.
