Mo and Dave have a Friday night ritual in which they round up as many of their friends as possible and go to this little Taiwanese noodle house on Federal. Dave and Mo are actually learning some pretty impressive-sounding Chinese from the family that owns it. Dave takes our orders and then orders in Chinese. This isn't your run of the mill Chinese buffet. You will not find any sweet and sour chicken, or even any rice for that matter. Oh no - it's all noodles and dan dan and dumplings - virtual mountains of really really good dumplings, both steamed and fried, pork and chicken, best dipped in a concoction of sesame oil, vinegar, soy sauce and chili paste that you mix up to suit your own palate from a collection of bottles on the table. I had cold noodles with chicken, which comes with shredded carrot, some other unidentifiable shredded vegetable, and drowned in a peanut sauce, which I heaped with rounded spoonfuls of fresh chopped garlic and doused in chili oil. Pretty darn tasty!
The next stop for the Friday night noodle house ritual is a stop at a boba tea joint, but they were closed by the time we wrapped it up at dinner.
To avoid letting any potential stalkers where I am, I don't post the names of the places I frequent. This makes me sad tonight because I would really love to pimp this little restaurant. It is a nice little place and I'm told their business has been disappointingly slow lately. However, if you want to know the name of for your own dining purposes, please email me and I'll let you in on the secret. I figure if I know who you are, then you can't be a stalker, eh? Or at least I'll have a list of suspects to give to the police!
The photo, by the way, is of the menu, posted on the wall. (They also have it on paper in English.)
