Snow Day

No one was expecting it until later this afternoon, but the snow started around 10am and didn't stop until nearly 6pm. It didn't accumulate to much of anything despite its impressively large and dense show in midair since it was a classic Colorado powder and the temperature was just too warm. It stuck to things that didn't retain their heat very easily, like tree branches and dead grasses, and not to much else.

Snow is hard to shoot when it's falling. It moves too quickly to get a nice shot with individual flakes. Getting individual flakes requires a shutter speed so fast that the picture turns out almost black. And if you're shooting anything else, well, the snow is blowing around and gets onto your lens where it promptly melts and ruins your shot. I managed this one by keeping the focus downward and caught some nice detail in the snowflakes. This really shows how light the snow was. No snowmen or snowballs today. You might as well be throwing sugar.
