December and 65°
| It is
absolutely gorgeous outside today, fabulous blue skies and temps
in the mid-sixties.
So Sorcha and I are spending the day out on the balcony. I'm getting
some work done. I have a take home final for my International Business
class
that's due tomorrow night, and a Chinese Marketing project due on
Thursday. But after that,
I'm done for the semester, yay! It's warm enough out here that I'm
going to have to change into
a t-shirt soon.
I wanted to get a photo of Sorcha in today since she was more or less the focus of my entire day yesterday. She spent the entire week crying for food even though her food dish was full. She's not sick, she simply decided she wasn't going to eat the Iams anymore. So I went to PetSmart, grumbling the whole time, and picked out three small bags of different brands to try - Max Cat, Eukanuba, and Blue. I also picked out a can of wet food, flaked tuna flavored, since I was reasonably sure she would eat that and I figured that Her Royal Fluffiness really just needed to get something into her tummy. She loved it, of course. Once she was finished with it, I took it away and set out a few bites of each of the three dry foods to see what she would pick. It turns out that she'll eat all three, but she liked Blue the best, which is actually nice since it has no fillers, no corn, wheat or soy, and no by-products, so it's probably the healthiest of the three for her. (The canned food was also Blue.) The bad part is that it's also the most expensive of the three, but heck, if I can spend $10 on a single meal for myself, then surely I can spend that much on a bag of cat food that will last two or three weeks. Now I'm left with three open bags of cat food. My friend Therese mentioned that she and Lori freeze their excess dry cat food to keep it fresh longer, so I put it in freezer bags and into the freezer. Let's face it, Sorcha's getting to be an old lady, and if she's rejecting her food, there must be a decent reason why. She loved the wet food, so I'm making it a part of her daily diet. However, you can't just leave wet food out in the dish all day, and Sorcha is used to grazing on dry food whenever the mood strikes. So I'm taking advantage of my current employment status to put her on a schedule. Dry food in the morning, rotating between the three brands, and she only has access to the dish for an hour. Wet food at dinner time, and she only has access to the dish for thirty minutes. When I go home for Christmas, I'll leave out just the dry food; I also picked up a food dish with a reservoir so that I can leave out a week's worth of food for her while I'm gone, which solves the problem of scrambling to find someone to feed her. All the food changes have been disruptive to her routine, so we spent awhile brushing yesterday as a treat, and she's been super snuggly today. Mmmm, snuggly kitty.... |
